You need the kernel-source package installed and
use /usr/src/linux-2.4 for Red hat kernels.
unless it autodetects correctly using the link in
/lib/modules/<version>/build/include

Argument "\x{67}\x{63}..." isn't numeric in numeric ge
(>=) at /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl line 1493, <STDIN>
line 3.
try changing you LOCALE to posix instead. UTF-8 has some issues.

#export LANG=C
#./vmware-config.pl
