Here's a bizarre issue: I ran "Sound Card Detection" (redhat-config-soundcard) and it correctly identified the on-motherboard sound chip: Vendor: Silicon Integrated Systems Model: SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator Module: i810_audio The test sound plays OK and audio tools like XMMS work fine, *except* there's no volume control. If I open the Volume Control panel, checking Mute under pcm is the only control that mutes audio. The vol and speaker Mute boxes have no effect. If I drag the volume slider on the pcm control up and down there's no change in volume, unless I slide it all the way to the bottom in which case audio is muted. The volume and balance controls on XMMS have no effect, unless the volume slider is slid to 0%, then there's no audio. I'd really like a volume control! Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks!
