Hi

Is there anyone that knows anything about printing that can help me?

dmesg (snippet) output:
---8<---
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
lp0: console ready
---8<---

Jobs can be submitted but just sit there interminably. Nothing prints!

Host is configured with LPRng (alternatives). CUPS is not installed.

# lpstat -t
scheduler is running
system default destination: hplj4
printer hplj4@olympus unknown state. enabled since Feb 18 00:01 2003.
available
Printer: hplj4@olympus
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Status: job 'tom@olympus+493' saved at 23:49:41.080

When I start redhat-config-printer I get the following errors on the
console:
---8<---
(redhat-config-printer-gui:17616): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast
from (NULL) pointer to `GObject'

(redhat-config-printer-gui:17616): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file
gobject.c: line 972 (g_object_get): assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)'
failed

(redhat-config-printer-gui:17616): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast
from (NULL) pointer to `GObject'

(redhat-config-printer-gui:17616): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file
gobject.c: line 972 (g_object_get): assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)'
failed
---8<---

Although I get the errors above the utility seems to work OK and it
configures a /etc/printcap.

I must have a hole in my head because I can't work this out...Any help
is appreciated.

Regards,

Tom
