In addition to the Registry changes mentioned in another reply, you have 
to add a machine account to your /etc/samba/smbpasswd file for each XP 
workstation, and there are several other requirements.

There is a very good HOWTO on the samba.org web site by David Lechnyr 
that goes through all the gory details.
