gcc version errors with insmod

Hi all,
I'm trying to compile the drivers for an Orinoco wireless card. I can
build the drivers without a problem and I get no compile or build
errors. But, when I plug the card in, I get these messages in the
messages log:

cardmgr[1506]: executing: 'insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-19.8.0/pcmcia/wavelan2_cs.o'
cardmgr[1506]: + /lib/modules/2.4.18-19.8.0/pcmcia/wavelan2_cs.o: The
modules you are trying to load
(/lib/modules/2.4.18-19.8.0/pcmcia/wavelan2_cs.o) is compiled with a gcc
cardmgr[1506]: + version 2 compiler, while the kernel you are running is
compiled with
cardmgr[1506]: + a gcc version 3 compiler. This is known not to work.
cardmgr[1506]: insmod exited with status 1

I'm running kernel 2.4.18-19.8.0. After receiving the message the first
time, I did a 'make clean', confirmed the removal of all of the .o
files, and rebuilt from scratch, yet I still get the identical error.
I've confirmed that all of my gcc (and related) rpms are version 3.2-7,
so I don't think that there are any version 2 compilers on my system.

Is there something that I'm not doing correctly? I've never seen such
an error before - Is there anything I can check for? Any
thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!
