the router (Linksys BEFN2PS4) is pretty straightford to configure for the
Port Forwarding. And, as I mentioned, everything works when I forward the
port to a Windows box.

Is there any way/log file that I could look at which would tell me if the
linux box sees anything coming from the router???

Show us more about your Linux box's network configuration, in
particular the output of "netstat -nr" and "ifconfig -a".

A common problem is a missing default route, so reply packets don't
make it back to the router.

However, you added that the Linux box doesn't see any redirected
traffic on port 80 at all. Hence I wonder whether your router is
configured correctly.
