XMMS

As I said earlier, RH8's xmms seems to be troublesome. So, I reinstall everything and downgrade the version.
1. The files that I use here:
guspat-20000706-4k.noarch.rpm, 33262021
libjconv-2.8.1-2k.i586.rpm, 25181
xmms-1.2.5-6k.i586.rpm, 1351141
xmms-midi-0.03-6k.i586.rpm, 117509
xmms-modplug-1.2-8k.i586.rpm, 148200
To google & to download the files above, use 'kondara, _filenames_' because all those files are from my Kondara CDs [i586 arch].
--------------------------------
2. The Installation:
First of all: remove ALL the xmms things that come with RH8. Try '$ rpm -e xmms' and then '$ rpm -qa | grep xmms' to see if it's cleaned-up completely from your machine.
1. Installing the "normal" xmms [require xmms & libjconv]
$ rpm -i xmms-1.2.5-6k.i586.rpm libjconv-2.8.1-2k.i586.rpm
Done! Now I can play mp3 files normally!
2. Installing the xmms midi capability [require xmms-midi & guspatch]
$ rpm -i xmms-midi-0.03-6k.i586.rpm guspat-20000706-4k.noarch.rpm
Done! Now I can play midi files really beautifully!
3. Installing xmms modplug [[http://modplug-xmms.sourceforge.net/]
$ rpm -i xmms-modplug-1.2-8k.i586.rpm
Okey!
--------------------------------
Cool! Now everything works and I can even play my mp3 directly from my NTFS drive. Just su as root, start xmms from the konsole and everything works fine as it normally does under Linux....:)
I still wonder though why RH8's xmms couldn't work nicely like this. Is it because RH8's is i386 and not i586? And especially for playing the MIDI files, the xmms-midi & guspatch simply didn't want to integrate smoothly with RH8's xmms. Timidity is okey, but if we can use just one interface, then why need two?
Anyway, I've solved my music playing problem under RH8. xmms is a great player, you can individually add in more stuffs into it, like mpeg, radio, etc.
