lost in the pines

I'm new to Red Hat 8.0. I had the email reader, PINE, working two days
ago. Now, it's as though it no longer exists on my PC.

  [jkuo@mango jkuo]$ pine
  -bash: pine: command not found

Several other applications, including PICO, and PILOT are also missing.

I attempted to look for it in the /usr/bin directory, but the ls command
generated a bunch of errors.

  [jkuo@mango jkuo]$ ls /usr/bin/ -al > spool.txt
  ls: /usr/bin/gpg-sign+encrypt: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/phpextdist: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/phpize: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/gpg-encrypt: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/gpg-sign: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pine-spellcheck: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pico: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pilot: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pine: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pinegpg-install: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pinegpg: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pg_config: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/ecpg: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pinepgpgpg-install: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/rpdump: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pmake: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pltcl_delmod: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pgtclsh: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/lastcomm: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/ac: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pltcl_listmod: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pltcl_loadmod: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/lsdev: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/procinfo: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/socklist: Input/output error
  ls: /usr/bin/pstack: Input/output error

Do you know where/how to correct the problem? Did my harddrive go bad? Do
I need to reinstall? I would appreciate any help. Thank you. -- Justin
