Most likely you don't have the required compat-* packages installed;
make sure you have at least

  compat-gcc
  compat-gcc-c++
  compat-libstdc++
  compat-libstdc++-devel

You can find the required RPMs on the 8.0 installation discs.

No surprise. You obviously failed to build a new RPM and therefore
the old galeon ist still invoked. Provided you succeed in building
a new galeon RPM, you'll also have to install that package first,
of course:

  # rpm -Uvh RPMS/i386/galeon-1.2.7-1.i386.rpm

HTH, cheers.
