I asked for dvd+r, not dvd+rw... I don't know much about DVD standards, but maybe DVD+R and DVD+RW are different standards and thus need different toolkits? Since writing DVD+RW works nicely, but DVD+R doesn't, that's the only reason I can think of. You are using DVD+R media for this, not DVD+RW, right? (sorry if that's a silly question, just trying to find possible reasons for the problem) Maybe you can ask Dell directly? AFAIK they claim that their hardware works with Linux.
