On my system the .xterm file did not have bold colors in it.  I had
always thought it was gnome-terminal couldn't display bold, and I never
investigated.  Thanks for making me look.  I've now removed the .xterm
file and use the same color scheme for console/gnome-terminal.  Much
better!

The contents of the DIR_COLORS file can be generated with this command:

# dircolors -p
