XMMS from source under RH8

I built XMMS from a tarball to do a clean installation, and now I can play 
mp3s from root, but not from user. I can only imagine that they let XMMS run 
as root.

Realizing this is a permissions issue, I have tried high and low to figure it 
out on my own, and wonder if someone else has.

On the side of the software box, in the 'System Requirements' section, it said 
'Requires Windows 95 or better'. So I installed Linux and lived happily ever 
after.
