problems with upgrading kernels

1. I upgraded one of my systems with Windows 2000 and RedHat to 8.0. I choose not to change from LILO to grub as no change is the recommended option on the upgrade. The installation of 8.0 went fine.

I have tried installing kernels 2.4.18-17.8.0 and 2.4.18-18.8.0. I used the "rpm -ivh" option on both. The process show 100% completion with the hash marks. However it ends with

grubby fatal error: unable to find a suitable template
Warning: /dev/hdb1 is not on the first disk
Fatal: open /boot/vmlinuz-2.4....img: No such file or directory.

Should I have changed my configuration program at the update?
Will grub handle Win 2000?

2. I haven't seen any solution to my other problem with not being able to install kernel-source-2.4.18-18.8.0 on a system running 2.4.18-17.8.0. I would like to upgrade the system kernel to 2.4.18-18.8.0, but I need the source files to rebuild the NVIDIA drivers.
