Sorry, 1 more thing. Per the monitor specs, the optimal rate is 1280x1024 at 60HZ so I specified the 60 for the vert refresh rate and left horiz rate at 31-80 per the manual for the monitor. I also set it to 1280x14 with a depth of 16. > > Hi Ian and others who have replied. > > I'm interesting in specifying the modeline entry into my XF86config > file, but how do I get that entry in the first place? > > The redhat-config-xfree86 puts something in there that doesn't work. > > Thanks... > > > > > > > > --=-8qD8iUnwTEJtpKeZRDjP > > Content-Type: text/plain > > Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable > > > > On Fri, 2002-11-22 at 07:34, Ken Kleiner wrote: > > > Hello... > > > =20 > > > X11 doesn't seem to want to work on our latest DELL GX260 with a > > > DELL Flat panel screen. > > >=20 > > > The system has a Intel i845 card in it, which the OS sees fine, and wor= > > ks > > > well with a DELL 21" tube monitor (X and text). > > > =20 > > > We've tried plugging in a DELL FP1702 (flat panel) monitor into the sys= > > tem > > > and running > > >=20 > > > redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig --noui --verbose =20 > > >=20 > > > This created what appears to be the proper entries in XF86Config, but > > > X still crashes with server errors. > > >=20 > > > I've tried trying just a new install (booting off of RH 8.0 CD) and eve= > > n > > > choosing the 'text' install, but that yields a black output screen with=20 > > > the 'cannot display this video mode' message on the monitor (coming from > > > the monitor). > > >=20 > > > Any ideas or working configs? > > I have a Dell Dimension 4400, GeForce 4 MX 440, Dell 15in LCD, etc etc > > and it worked fine on first go.
