Anybody get the same results and know why root is still > able to display? If you 'su' and not 'su -', then your environment is preserved, and the X cookie doesn't need to be forwarded by pam_xauth. At least, not to root. Everyone you 'su' to will have the appropriate XAUTHORITY environment variable set, but only root can read the file it points to.
