Rebuild a new initrd (with mkinitrd) and include the fb driver - it
will be preloaded with the kernel (and other modules, eg, ext3).

Then check the kernel docs (eg, in Documentation/fb/) to see what
kernel parameters you need to set it.  It is likely to look
something like "video=fbdriver:1280x1024-8@75" (where "fbdriver"
refers to your framebuffer driver).
