After I installed RH 8 I was very impressed. Unfortunately, things have not stayed rosy. Sound was the first thing to stop working, now whenever I reboot the computer I have to jump through all sorts of hoops to be able to mount a CD. With not modification the message I get is something like: "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom, or too many mounted filesystems (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)" This usually involves editing the" fstab" file (which get overwritten on reboot) from: /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0 to /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,kudzu,ro 0 0 I then have to deal with the link to the device. On checking I found that "/dev/cdrom" was pointing to "/dev/hdc". This is reset each time I reboot so I have to delete the old link and created a new link "dev/cdrom" pointing to "/dev/scd0". I can then mount the CD ROM. What am I missing? Are there some configuration settings that need to be changed? Any help in pointing me in the right direction will be deeply appreciated. Thanks!
