I believe you downloaded a tar.gz file?
Such as moneydance_linux_i386_ibm130.tar.gz
or perhaps
moneydance_other.tar.gz

To install:

tar xvzf name_of_file.tar.gz -C /usr/local/
(Will install the files in /usr/local/moneydance)
