Re: optical mice?

Following a recompile of the 2.4.18-17.8.0 kernel I have a mouse
question of my own.

If I use the stock Red Hat kernel, I get these kernel messages and my
mouse works fine:

Nov 11 10:35:48 bobc kernel: input0: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Microsoft
Microsoft IntelliMouse ® with IntelliEye] on usb1:3.0
Nov 11 10:35:48 bobc kernel: hiddev0: USB HID v1.00 Pointer [09be:0001]
on usb1:4.0
[root@bobc linux-2.4.18-17.8.0]# uname -a
Linux bobc.lingpgmr.com 2.4.18-17.8.0 #1 Tue Oct 8 13:51:08 EDT 2002
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

But if I boot my new kernel, the messages from 'input0' are missing and
replaced by one from 'hiddev0' and the mouse arrow is frozen in one
position on the screen and won't respond to mouse movements:

Nov 11 01:28:45 bobc kernel: hiddev0: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Microsoft
Microsoft IntelliMouse ® with IntelliEye] on usb1:3.0
Nov 11 01:28:45 bobc kernel: hiddev0: USB HID v1.00 Pointer [09be:0001]
on usb1:4.0

How do I fix this problem -- I thought all I had to do was make sure

CONFIG_USB_KBD=m
CONFIG_USB_MOUSE=m

are set as shown when doing kernel compiles. It worked before!

Thanks for any help!
