(hd0,2) => /dev/hda3, is that your /boot partition? Does it contain a file /grub/splash.xpm.gz? Or when it is mounted on /boot, do you have a file /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz? Also check "rpm -V grub". Maybe it got corrupted somehow. --
