I just purchased a Tyan S2466 a couple of days ago. If you are only using one Processor (According to the manual, so Check your Manual) it states to put Processor into the CPU1 socket only. (And not the CPU0 socket as I would have assumed) Also in the BIOS for HDD Geometry (Large Disk Access Mode), set it to 'Other' and NOT leave it on 'DOS'. As it appears that Unix/Linux handle the drive geometry a little differently than DOS. (I've just check in our Tyan S2462 Manual (Thunder K7, We have two of them here at the office, but running 'cough' Windblows) and it doesn't mention anything about the single CPU installation. It may be because it's using the 760MP chipset as apposed to the new 760MPX (which the new board uses). I have mine running with RH8.0 very nicely. (So Far So good).. As you didn't mention which model of Tyan Tiger MP board you have, it's hard to say what maybe causing this problem. But I would say that checking the manual (Or downloading from www.tyan.com ) And see what it says in relation to single CPU setups. That's all I can think of for the moment. I hope it may help.
