works fine here, 
Try creating the symlink using the command line and see what happens in
nautilus?
ie: ln -s target-file link-name

Then try creating one in nautilus, just highlight the directory/file and
then whilst pressing: CTRL and Shift drag an drop it to another
destination to create a symlink.
