If your are now Red Hat all the way, then NFS probably makes more sense.  Red 
Hat has the redhat-config-nfs tool which can be used to create the 
/etc/exports file.  Once you have that created, then do "service nfs" and 
away you go.  You will likely want it started when you boot the server.  On 
the workstation, simply mount -t nfs <servername>:<mountpoint> <local mp>
