gmix, aumix, ...    -> volume, pcm
killall esd
#esd
you should hear a test-sound
[ctrl]+[c]

if you can hear nothing
change the entry in your /etc/modules.conf
sound-slot-1  ->  sound-slot-0

and try it again
ok
#esd &
