gnucash's expense pie chart can't find data?

I originally created my gnucash accounts on FreeBSD box running gnucash
1.6.6, then moved stuff into RedHat box (7.3 at the time, currently
8.0). When I select Report -> Income & Expense -> Expense Piechart or
Report -> Utility -> Welcome to Extravaganza, I will get all the other
graphics beatifully, except that Expense Accounts piechart. On expence
pie chart it will complain "No data", even though I have real expenses
reported in there, account tree shows them just beatifully, expenses
barchard works beatifully and I didn't have any problems with expense
pie charts on FreeBSD box.

If someone has ideas, what might be wrong in my setup, all ideas would
be appreciated, since that has traditionally been THE report that I am
interested about.

Here is some more information about my setup, based on what comes up
when I select "edit options" for that pie chart report,
General tab has:
- report name: Expense Accounts
- stylesheet: default
- from "current year starts" to "today"
- report currency EUR
- price source: weighted average
Accounts tab has:
- all my expense accounts marked
- show accounts until level has been set to 2.
Display tab has:
- show long account names has NOT been selected
- show totals is selected
- maximum slices is 7
- plot width 400, height 250
