I actually git the KMail FAQ altered becuse of this behavior.

The two dashes followed by a space are a _convention_ in enail usage, not an 
RFC-type rule (it's in a proposed RFC, but it has never been acted upon).

Since it's only a convention, it's optional. If you want that kind of 
functionality, ask the Evolution maintainers. It's no a bad idea, but it 
would be nice if it were optional (and not forced on you like Kmail).
