redhat-config-soundcard doesn't work with the ALSA drivers, and probably
undid any modifications you've made to your /etc/modules.conf.  Set it
up by hand, turn up the volume, and try to play an audio file other than
an MP3.  If it still doesn't work, post your modules.conf file to the
list.
