Upgrading XFree86

Is there an easy way to upgrade XFree86 to version 4.3 in Red Hat 8.0?
I downloaded the source rpm and compiled them, but when I tried to
upgrade, I got the following error message:

error: Failed dependencies:
        Xft-devel >= 1.9.1.020626.1517-1 is needed by (installed)
pango-devel-1.1.1-1
        Xft is needed by (installed) libgnomeui-2.0.3-3
        Xft >= 1.9.1 is needed by (installed) qt-3.0.5-17

Aren't Xft and Xft-devel provided by XFree86-libs and XFree86-devel,
respectively? Or are these versions incompatible with my versions of
pango-devel, libgnomeui and qt? If I have to upgrade libgnomeui and qt,
I have to upgrade a whole bunch of other applications, and it would just
be easier to upgrade to Red Hat 9.
