If you look at your /etc/X11/XF86Config you should be using the "ati" driver. Have you looked at bugzilla to see what issues have been reported by others using your same hardware? http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla Are there any errors/warnings in /var/log/XFree86.0.log, /var/log/log/messages, ~/.xsession-errors, on the console? Might also try Mike's stable testing RPM's.
