If you look at your /etc/X11/XF86Config you should be using the "ati"
driver.


Have you looked at bugzilla to see what issues have been reported by
others using your same hardware?

Are there any errors/warnings in /var/log/XFree86.0.log,
/var/log/log/messages, ~/.xsession-errors, on the console?

 
Might also try Mike's stable testing RPM's. They work great for me, but
I have a radeon not a Rage 128.
