You could try to boot to text mode, and rerun redhat-config-xfree or at least look at your config file to see if it's got the right configuration. Did this same setup run on an 7.x version of Red Hat? You could compare config files to each system and see if there is anything different there. Also, you might want to check out up2date and see if there has been any new packages for XFree, in which case there might be a fix.
