This sounds very much like a bad memory problem or similar flaky 
hardware, perhaps overheating or bad power supply.

What motherboard chipset do you have?

All ATI Rage 128 hardware is supported and quite stable.

They are not for RHL 7.3, and most probably will not work.  
They're compiled with gcc 3.2beta

What kernel are you using?  Are you using your own custom kernel, 
or are you using the official Red Hat Linux kernel?

Do you use VMware?  Please provide the output of "lsmod" while 
XFree86 is running, as well as "uname -a".
