Dual P4 = dual Xeon, and a dual Xeon will thump on any dual Athlon
system in any task I can think of.

It used to be the case that uni-Athlon in general outperformed uni-P4
(except at tasks for which raw CPU MHz was really the only factor), but
Intel closed this gap when they moved to the 478 pin P4 (from the
original 423 pin P4).  The original 423 pin P4 systems were
disappointing, to say the least.
