Hello! I am not an expert, but I would like to give my $0.02 in this: One possible way to achive remote power off is like this: Lets assume you have server A and server B. UPS sends power off signal to server A. Now you want to power off server B also. Create a user on server B, say with name "reboot" The default shell - i.e. the program it will execute on login - will be a script. No password. In this script you can put shutsys poweroff (the shutdown commands). Now on Server A, when it goes down, it will execute a script - say netshut - in which there will be a command rlogin serverB -l reboot I agree that this description is not accurate in all aspects, but this is just an outline of the plan. Thanks, Atul Sowani. 12.Jul.2002 On Fri, 12 Jul 2002 09:14 +0200, Trevor Fraser wrote: u> u> ----- Original Message ----- u> From: Trevor Fraser u> To: clug-tech@clug.org.za u> Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 2:41 PM u> Subject: Sending poweroff command over LAN. u> u> u> Hello all. u> u> I've got two Red Hat Linux servers, one's a file server, the other a route/internet server. I've got an APC smart-UPS 1000. The UPS sends a shutdown signal to the file server via a serial cable. You can *$buy$*! an Interface Expander to get two serial ports out of the UPS, but isn't good old Linux capable of much more than the usual buy-buy-buy. u> u> What I want to attempt to do is to get the server which is connected to the UPS, when powering down, to send the other server a poweroff/run-level 6 signal via the lan. u> u> Is this possible? u> u> What proceedure would I use, and where would I find the relevent info? u> u> Is writing a shell script on the right track, or doesn't this work over the lan? u> u> Reguards, Trevor. u> _______________________________________________ Redhat-devel-list mailing list Redhat-devel-list@redhat.com https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-devel-list
