RE: HP DL380 iLOM configuration under RHEL5

Steve,

I haven't done it on a HP server, but I have connected to the Serial
Management port on a Sun server. I'm assuming that they work in the
same manner. Connecting to the Sun box from our Linux system over the
serial connection is simply a case of typing:

cu -l /dev/ttyS0 -s 9600

This gives a serial connection to the ILOM on the Sun box. Hopefully
this will be the same for you.

Subject: HP DL380 iLOM configuration under RHEL5

 Hey there,

I'm trying to setup the virtual serial port under a compaq DL380G5
server in order to bind a getty to it and allow serial port logins via
the iLOM, however, after having enabled this as COM2 under the BIOS
options and turned on the EMS console as per the instructions at

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00263709/c00263
709.pdf

(iLOM serial port configuration guide)

I am getting the 'getty respawned too fast' message as it tries to bind
to the serial port.

When trying to query this port with setserial I get..

# setserial /dev/ttyS1
/dev/ttyS1: No such device or address

/dev/ttyS1 is as follows..

# ls -l /dev/ttyS1
crw------- 1 root root 4, 65 Apr 27 2009 /dev/ttyS1

The inittab line I've used is..

S1:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS1 vt100

Has anyone here managed to set this up on a DL380G5 HP Proliant server
before ?
