Andrew Elliott a écrit :
I was wondering if anyone knew how to free the cached memory for RHEL3
v.2.4.21-20. Yes, I am aware that it's better to let the OS manage it and
that an update/upgrade would fix the issue.

My question is, HOW do I tune the kernel or vm parameters to allow less
cached memory.

As it is now, there is nearly 10GB out of 12GB that are cached and the page
file is starting to be used.

Here's a memory snapshot of what I'm talking about.

Mem: 12271672k av, 11647436k used, 624236k free, 0k shrd, 342228k
buff

                   4074008k actv, 5551484k in_d, 833336k in_c

Swap: 4096312k av, 1352k used, 4094960k free 10569944k
cached

You can't do 'sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches' for RHEL 3...At least
I don't think so...I don't think there's any /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches in v.
3.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have any impact on performance? If not, let it alone...
