Hi Jai,

I think your kernel is not supporting for GPT option ,
To use GPT with linux you need:

A linux kernel with the GPT support (option CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION set
to yes)
A boot loader that supports GPT (grub-0.97 needs a patch)
Disk tools that supports GPT (GNU-Parted and GParted support it)

I was able to install the os after rebuilding the RAID. But now I am
having problem with lvm. It does not allow me to increase the size to
more than 772Gb. I need to make a partition of 4.5 TB.
I get this error, when I try to extend the size of if I try to create a
big LV with lvcreate,
"Device mapper: reload ioctl failed: invalid argument"
Failed to suspend lv_Vol_name"
I am getting these messages in the log/messages
19 11:44:04 jwyse-pc kernel: device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target
to table
May 19 11:44:23 jwyse-pc kernel: device-mapper: table: device 104:5 too

Hi ,

For GPT type hard disk we should use "parted" command to create/view
the partitions.Other wise your Linux kernel should have GPT support.(GPT
is a new technology for creating big file system like 4TB,5TB,etc.. ,
it's used instated of MBR)

Sakthi.

I am trying to install Redhat 5.0 Enterprise edition on HP Server with
750GB Disks with hardware Raid 5, total of 5TB. When I do the
partitioning I get this error message,

"You boot partition is on a disk using GPT partitioning scheme but this
machine can not boot using GPT.

This can happen if there is not enough space on you hard drive.

The error must be corrected before you try to install Redhat Enterprise
server. "

Has any one experienced this problem? Any idea for the solution.

Thank you,

-Jai
