Magic file

Once upon a time, there was a simple text file named /etc/magic and it
served a wonderful purpose. Elegant and easy to modify as well as
use. Too elegant. Too easy. We musn't have THAT! Now, it's some sort of
compiled file where the tools needed to extend and modify the file aren't
on the standard Red Hat distribution. Does anyone know where those tools
are and how to obtain them?

darrel,

Please read the little bit I left quoted below. Send new questions
with a subject line appropriate to the topic you are asking a question
about and likely more people will take the time to read your question.
Since everyone subscribed to the list either already received the
digest you quoted in its entirety or received all those unrelated
messages directly already it is really unnecessary and bad form to
send them all to us again.

If you look at the man page for magic ("man magic") it will probably
point you to the file you are looking for.
