RE: RHEL3 missing library

Imed:

Where is what output I got from rpm -Va. I'm not a full-time
sysadmin to understand all the low level stuff with the various libraries
and packages. I can tell you that RH's engineer was thinking maybe some of
the packages that were retrieved by the up2date utility got built on the
wrong server internally. No one has gotten back to me yet though.

I can make the box do enough low level chores to get by for two more
days, but I'm going to do a clean RHEL4 install Tuesday night at this point.
I will do another one simultaneously while walking a business owner through
enough steps to get a minimal install, and I will then be able to control it
remotely for the rest.

I have gotten hosed before by an exposed system getting infected
with a root kit. Does this look at all like evidence of that? The box
isn't exposed publically - just via VPN.

If the applications are complaining about the missing GCC_4.2.0 symbol, then

it's almost sure that you are using a non-Red Hat core system library like a

custom libstdc++, libgcc and such. Verify the installation using rpm -Va.
