The latest update: I've solved the hardware problems, but still can't get a good dump. (Keep your snide jokes to yourselves. :) I can manipulate the changer just fine, loading and unloading all day long. If I answer "no," it aborts the dump. I tried erasing a tape with 'mt -f /dev/st0 erase' and the process hung and wouldn't respond to kill -9. Basically, it seems that anything that manipulates /dev/sg1 (the library device) works, but things that manipulate /dev/st0 (the tape drive device) don't. The status of the tape drive seems fine, though: # mt -f /dev/st0 status SCSI 2 tape drive: File number=0, block number=0, partition=0. Tape block size 1024 bytes. Density code 0x80 (DLT 15GB uncomp. or Ecrix). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (41010000): BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN Any ideas?
