The ":0" is showing you that somebody logged into the console via GDM right? (The X-windows login?)

Yes, With the last command (w/o the -i switch) this output looks like: shashank pts/0 Wed Dec 15 15:02 - 15:03 (00:01) shashank :0 Wed Dec 15 15:02 - 15:03 (00:01) shashank pts/0 Wed Dec 15 15:00 - 15:01 (00:01) shashank :0 Wed Dec 15 15:00 - 15:01 (00:01)

So I am wondering if it is a bug?

Is 128.99.1.64 the IP address of the system where the keyboard was used to log into GDM?

If it is then I don't think it is a bug. A login on a Virtual Console doesn't imply any TCP-IP goings on, (you don't even have to have an IP address at all to log in on a virtual console)

But GDM is an X-Client application. So it would have to use TCP/IP to communicate with the X-Server.
