Brian,

You can create a ~/.vimrc with some of the other suggestions people have
mentioned as defaults.

Subject: vim vs. vi

Hello,

I've used vi on Solaris for so long that vim on Linux is a bit of a
stumbling block. Is there a way to turn off the syntax highlighting and
make it act a little bit more like Sun VI?

Thanks,

-brian
