My personal recommendation to everybody has to get a low-end Linksys
router box (or equivalent) and connect to the Comcast service using
that.  It gets the DHCP address and your Linux system is statically
assigned and just uses the Linksys as a default gateway.  I suspect it's
*much* easier to call Comcast and tell them that the Linksys router
couldn't get an address than it is to tell them that Linux couldn't get
an address.
