Ok, here's what I found... Latest of the latest stable for RH9 uses spamassassin-2.44-x and perl-5.8.0-88.3. In order to have spamassassin generate the output I really want I needed spamassassin-2.63-1 (actually the spamassassin-2.5x generation would have worked...but try finding that from a repository you know and trust. Spamassassin-2.63-1 would not install the rpm's and complained about a missing dependency with Perl. Come to find out that spamassassin-2.63-1 and perl-5.9.x do not like each other. What I found, in digging on the spamassassin website, was another rpm that will make 2.63 happy. Now installed....spamassassin is happy as am I. I did find a bugzilla reference that documents the perl issue at hand http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=87682.
