To get RH7.3 working on my 486 Thinkpad firewall, I had to use the RULE-project loader. There was a bug in anaconda that prevented at least some 486 systems from starting the installer--Red Hat no longer supported 486 from 7.3 on. Check the RULE site at www.rule-project.org. Also, my machine does not have a CD-ROM, so I ended up doing a floppy boot and a network install.
