I am trying to restart the named service but it hangs when attempting to stop
the named process. here is the resulting error. any clues whats going on here?

# service named restart
Stopping named: rndc: connect failed: operation canceled
--- snip ---
or if I let it sit for two minutes - the other error is:
--- snip ---
# service named restart
Stopping named: rndc: connect failed: timed out
[FAILED]
Starting named: [ OK ]
