newgrp command unsets LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable

When I change to a new group using the newgrp command, the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable get's unset
which is not very desirable. No other variable changes. Interestingly,
it does not seem to be the case for the
root user, who keeps the value of LD_LIBRARY_PATH even after a newgrp.

Where is this behaviour defined? I want LD_LIBRARY_PATH to keep its
value as any other variable (PATH,...).
This happens for RH8, RHEL 3, and for both, tcsh and bash.

Ideas?

Thanx
Stefan
