Something like:
define(`SMART_HOST',`smtp:smtp.harrisburgpa.gov')dnl in sendmail.mc,
where smtp.harriburgpa.gov is your external / real mail server.
Be careful to use "directed quotes such as Reuben showed above and *NOT* standard single quotes.
Simply restart sendmail in most cases to activate the changes. You never did say what OS and sendmail version you are running. How about:
# cat /etc/redhat-release # rpm -q sendmail
