printk and kernel debugging

Hi,

I wanted some help with the use of printk for kernel debugging. I was
seeing some kernel code and I found that the printk statements with
KERN_INFO priority level were been collected in /var/log/messages. I want
to know whether this is default (all KERN_INFO level output always goes to
/var/log/messages ? ). Also, where can I read the output from printk with
KERN_DEBUG priority level. I dont see it in /log/messages.I havent been
able to locate these.

Thank you.
