Title: SV: capture kernel panic / hardware problem?

--howdy:

--just wanted to check in and give an update
--to this.

--it appears that it wasn't the disks at all,
--but the video card.  at least, the server
--seems stable now.

--i had a cirrus logic (cl 9D5434 - hc - b) PCI
--card and i *thought* it was supported (i even
--got messages about some guy who worked on it).

--then, i got a GeForce 4 MX 440 8x (AGP) that
--kept crashing.  RH configured it for generic,
--but that didn't help.  the HCL for RH 9 only
--said GeForce 4 was supported (that was $70 ago).

--early this morning, i found a Rage 128 card and
--the box is happy.

--thanks folks!

A catastropic failure like this when you are doing something simple like
manipulating files really sounds like you've got hardware
problems. In that case the panics that you capture should have no particular
signature other than the fact that you are asking the machine to do some work.
