Jody, I typically install mysql from source code on mysql.com. It looks like you have a client side version of mysql installed. Check under /etc/init.d/ and look for a file that has mysql in it. If not, it looks like you aren't setup for mysql server in which case you'll have to install it. Try pulling the latest and greatest stable rpm of mysql and follow the docs. It is fairly straight forward...
